OCWA Recognizes Indigenous History Month
In 2009, June was declared Indigenous History Month by the Government of Canada to recognize the First Nation, Inuit and Métis people who have helped shape Canadian history, as well as celebrate their culture and heritage.
As much as this is a time to celebrate the history, diversity, and contributions of Canadians who identify as Indigenous, it also provides us an opportunity to reflect on the hardships that these communities have endured in the past, many of which persist to this day.
At OCWA, we are proud to partner with many First Nation communities across Ontario, and feel very fortunate to work with First Nation communities and organizations to help meet their water and wastewater needs.
We encourage you to take the time this month – and all year long – to continue to educate yourself on the rich history and contributions of the Indigenous peoples of Canada.
